When a mendicant enters into and withdraws from these eight liberations—in forward order, in reverse order, and in forward and reverse order—wherever they wish, whenever they wish, and for as long as they wish; and when they realize the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life, and live having realized it with their own insight due to the ending of defilements, they’re called a mendicant who is freed both ways. 「アーナンダよ、比丘がこれら八解脱（はちげだつ）に、順次にも入定し、逆次にも入定し、また順逆にも入定して、望むところに、望むときに、望むだけの時間、入定することも出定することも自在である者が、さらに諸漏（しょろ）の滅尽によって、漏なき心解脱（しんげだつ）・慧解脱（えげだつ）を、現世においてみずから直知し、証得して住するならば、アーナンダよ、この比丘は倶分解脱（くぶんげだつ）者と呼ばれる。アーナンダよ、この倶分解脱よりも、さらに勝れ、さらに尊い他の倶分解脱は存在しない」と。
世尊はこのように説かれた。尊者アーナンダは歓喜して、世尊の説かれたことを喜び受けたのである。
