これが第一の識の住処（viññāṇaṭṭhiti）である。アーナンダよ、身（体）を異にし、想（知覚）を同じくする有情たちがいる。例えば、初禅によって初めて梵衆天（brahmakāyikā）に生まれた神々のごとくである。
これが第二の識の住処である。アーナンダよ、身を同じくし、想を異にする有情たちがいる。例えば、光音天（ābhassarā）の神々のごとくである。
これが第三の識の住処である。アーナンダよ、身を同じくし、想を同じくする有情たちがいる。例えば、遍浄天（subhakiṇhā）の神々のごとくである。
さてアーナンダよ、第一の識の住処とは何か。身を異にし、想を異にする有情たち、例えば人間や、一部の神々、また一部の堕処（vinipātikā）に生まれた者たちのごとくである。
