その方のゴッタ（氏族名）はコンダンニャであった。そのとき、比丘たちよ、大梵天（マハーブラフマー）は上衣を片肩にまとい、右膝を地につけ、ヴィパッシー如来・阿羅漢・正等覚者に向かって合掌し、こうお言葉を申し上げた。
「世尊よ、どうか法（ダンマ）をお説きください。善逝（スガタ）よ、どうか法をお説きください。眼に塵の少ない者たち（apparajakkhajātikā）がおります。彼らは法を聞く機会を得ないままに衰えていくことでしょう。法を理解する者たちが、必ずや現れるはずでございます。」
