And sir, I’ll make sure that when six years have passed the mendicants will return to Bandhumatī to recite the monastic code.’ Then in the late afternoon, the Buddha Vipassī came out of retreat and addressed the mendicants, telling them all that had happened. Then he said, ‘Wander forth, mendicants, for the welfare and happiness of the people, out of sympathy for the world, for the benefit, welfare, and happiness of gods and humans. 「世尊よ、六年が経過するごとに、比丘たちはバンドゥマティーの王都へ赴き、波羅提木叉（パーティモッカ）を誦出いたすよう、私めが取り計らいまする」
さて、比丘たちよ、薄暮のころ、阿羅漢にして正等覚者たるヴィパッシー世尊は独坐（パティサッラーナ）より出でて、比丘たちに告げられた。そして次のように仰せられた。
「比丘たちよ、遊行に出よ。多くの人々の利益のために、多くの人々の安楽のために、世を憐れむがゆえに、神々と人々との利益・福祉・安楽のために。一つの道を二人して行くことなかれ。比丘たちよ、法（ダンマ）を説け――初めよく、中ほどよく、終わりよく、意義を具え、文辞を具えたる法を」
