that the Blessed One Vipassī, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha, had arrived at Bandhumatī and was staying in the deer park named Sanctuary. And they heard that the king’s son Khaṇḍa and the high priest’s son Tissa had shaved off their hair and beard, dressed in ocher robes, and gone forth from the lay life to homelessness in the Buddha’s presence. 世尊（ヴィパッシー）如来・応供・正等覚者がバンドゥマティーの都に到着され、「聖域」と呼ばれる鹿野苑に滞在されているということを。また、王子カンダと祭官の子ティッサとが、世尊ヴィパッシー如来・応供・正等覚者のみもとで、髪と鬚を剃り、袈裟（かさや）の衣をまとい、在家の生活を捨てて出家（しゅっけ）されたということを耳にした。これを聞いて、彼らの心にかくの如き思いが生じた。
「王子カンダと祭官の子ティッサとが、髪と鬚を剃り、袈裟の衣をまとい、在家の生活を捨てて出家されたこの教えと律（りつ）は、いかなる意味においても尋常のものではあるまい。この出家もまた、断じて尋常の出家ではあるまい。」
