そののち、幾千年もの歳月が流れ去ったのち、ヴィパッシー王子は再び御者に命じて園苑へと赴かれた。
さて、阿羅漢にして正等覚（さとり）を開かれた世尊ヴィパッシーに、かくなる思いが起こった。
「われ、法（ダンマ）を説くべきではあるまいか」と。
しかして、阿羅漢にして正等覚を開かれた世尊ヴィパッシーに、またかくなる思いが起こった。
「われの証得したこの法は、深遠にして見がたく、覚りがたく、寂静にして微妙、思惟の及ぶところを超え、精緻にして、賢者のみよく知りうるものである。しかるに、この世の人々は執著（アーラヤ）を喜びとし、執著を楽しみとし、執著に歓喜している。執著（アーラヤ）を喜びとし、執著を楽しみとし、執著に歓喜しているこの人々には、かの道理は見がたく――」
