From when he was born, a white parasol was held over him night and day, with the thought, ‘Don’t let cold, heat, grass, dust, or damp bother him.’ He was dear and beloved by many people, like a blue water lily, or a pink or white lotus. ヴィパッシン王子が誕生されたその時より、昼夜を問わず白き天蓋（せっちゃった）がその御頭上に掲げられた。「寒さにも暑さにも、草にも塵にも、露にも悩まされることのなきように」と。
ヴィパッシン王子はその生まれながらにして、多くの人々に愛され、慕われた。ちょうど青き優鉢羅華（うばつらか）、あるいは紅き鉢曇摩華（はどんまか）、あるいは白き芬陀利華（ふんだりか）が、多くの人々に愛され慕われるように。王子はつねに人々の腕から腕へと、抱かれながら育てられた。
また王子はその生まれながらにして、美しく、朗らかに、甘く、人の心を惹きつける声をそなえておられた。それはあたかも雪山（せっせん）に棲むカッコウの歌声のごとく、いとも清らかなるものであった。
さらにヴィパッシン王子はその生まれながらにして、天眼（てんげん）の力を具えており、その智見は……
