After conquering this land girt by sea, he reigns by principle, without rod or sword. 彼は、海を境とするこの大地を、刑罰によらず、武力によらず、ただ法（ダンマ）のみによって征服し、統治するであろう。しかしながら、もし彼が家を出でて出家（パッバジター）するならば、世の覆いを取り除く、阿羅漢（アラハン）にして正等覚者（サンマーサンブッダ）となるであろう。
「大王よ、御子がお生まれになりました。どうか大王には御覧あそばされますよう。」
比丘たちよ、バンドゥマー王はヴィパッシン王子を御覧になられた。御覧になられてのち、相（ニミッタ）を見る婆羅門（ブラーフマナ）たちを召し出して、かくのごとく仰せられた。
「諸賢よ、この王子を御覧いただきたい。」
比丘たちよ、相を見る婆羅門たちはヴィパッシン王子を御覧になった。御覧になりてのち、バンドゥマー王にかくのごとく申し上げた。
「大王よ、御喜びなさいませ。これはまことに稀有なることにございます。」
