It’s a mendicant who wields the many kinds of psychic power: multiplying themselves and becoming one again; materializing and dematerializing; going unobstructed through a wall, a rampart, or a mountain as if through space; diving in and out of the earth as if it were water; walking on water as if it were earth; flying cross-legg
「ケーヴァッタよ、まことにこれら三種の神変（パーティハーリヤ）がある。それらはわたし自身が、みずから直接智（アビンニャー）によって証知し、説き示したものである。いかなる三つであるか。
ケーヴァッタよ、では神足神変（イッディパーティハーリヤ）とはいかなるものか。ここにひとりの比丘がいて、さまざまな神足（イッディ）の種類を現じる。すなわち、ひとつの身でありながら多くの身となり、多くの身でありながらまたひとつの身となる。現れては消え、消えては現れる。壁をも、城壁をも、山をも、さまたげられることなく通り抜ける、あたかも虚空をゆくがごとくに。大地においても潜り出し潜り入る、あたかも水の中におけるがごとくに。水の上をも沈むことなく歩む、あたかも大地の上におけるがごとくに。虚空においても跏趺（かふ）を結んで飛び行く、あたかも翼ある鳥のごとくに。」
