Quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, they enter and remain in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected. 感覚的快楽（kāma）をまったく離れ、不善なる諸法（akusala dhamma）を離れて、尋（vitakka）と伺（vicāra）とを有し、離れたることより生じた喜悦（pīti）と楽（sukha）とを具えた初禅（paṭhama jhāna）に入り、そこに住する。
その者は、この身そのものを、離れたることより生じた喜悦と楽とをもって浸し、潤し、満たし、あまねく行き渡らせる。身体のいかなる部分も、離れたることより生じた喜悦と楽とによって満たされないところはない。
若者よ、たとえば巧みな湯浴み師、あるいはその弟子が、青銅の器に浴用の粉末を注ぎ入れ、水をもって繰り返し繰り返し練り合わせるようなものである。その浴用の粉の塊は内も外も潤いに満たされ、潤いをもって満ち溢れ、潤いがいずこにも行き渡って、しかも水が滴り落ちることがない——それと同じように、修行者はこの身を、離れたることより生じた喜悦と楽とをもって遍く満たすのである。
