「それについては、後でお聞きになる機会もございましょう。引き出す（取り去る）とき、その人は無想（むそう）の状態になる」と。このように、ある人々は想（そう）の滅尽（めつじん）を説くのでございます。
そのことが、私に世尊のことを思い起こさせました。「ああ、まことに世尊は、ああ、まことに善逝（ぜんぜい）は、これらの法（ダンマ）においていかに深く精通しておられることか」と。世尊は想の滅尽について、よく知り、よく通達しておられます。
では、尊師よ、想の滅尽（想受滅・saññānirodha）はいかにして起こるのでございましょうか。
尊師よ、数日前のこと、様々な外道（げどう）の沙門・婆羅門（しゃもん・ばらもん）たちが談義の堂に集まって座しておりました——
