“Because they are beneficial and relevant to the fundamentals of the spiritual life. They lead to disillusionment, dispassion, cessation, peace, insight, awakening, and extinguishment. 「なぜなら、これらは義（アッタ）に適い、法（ダンマ）に適い、梵行（ぼんぎょう）の根本をなすものだからです。これらは厭離（ニッビダー）へ、離欲（ヴィラーガ）へ、滅尽（ニローダ）へ、寂静（ウパサマ）へ、直知（アビンニャー）へ、正覚（サンボーディ）へ、そして涅槃（ニッバーナ）へと導くものです。それゆえに、わたしはこれらを説き示したのです。」
「まことにそのとおりでございます、世尊よ。まことにそのとおりでございます、善逝（スガタ）よ。どうか世尊よ、今こそよきお時とお思いでしたら、ご随意に。」
そこで世尊は座より立ち上がり、その場を去られた。
世尊が立ち去ってほどなく、その遊行者（パリッバージャカ）たちは、ポッタパーダ遊行者を四方から嘲弄と誹謗の言葉でもって激しく責め立てた。
