「われらはかの尊者ゴータマにまみえたく存じます」と彼らは言った。「友よ、今は世尊にお目にかかる時ではありません。世尊はただいま独居（パティサッリーナ）に入っておられます」。そこでコーサラ国のバラモンの使者たちとマガダ国のバラモンの使者たちは、「われらはかの尊者ゴータマにお目にかかってのち去るとしよう」と思い、そのままその場に坐して待った。
リッチャヴィ族のオッタッダもまた、多くのリッチャヴィたちの集いとともに、大林（マハーヴァナ）の重閣講堂（クーターガーラサーラー）へと赴き、尊者ナーギタのもとに近づいた。近づいて尊者ナーギタを礼拝し、かたわらに立った。かたわらに立ちて、リッチャヴィのオッタッダは尊者ナーギタにこう申し上げた。「尊者ナーギタよ、いまや世尊——応供（アラハント）にして正等覚（サンマーサンブッダ）——はいずこにおわしますか」と。
