「マハーリよ、禅定（サマーディ）をかくのごとく上下四方にわたって修習した比丘においては、まさにそのようにあるのです。これこそが因であり、これこそが縁であります。スナッカッタ・リッチャヴィの子が、快く官能を伴い心を惹きつける天上の音声（ディッバ・サッダ）を聞くことができないのは、そのような音声が実在しないからではなく、彼自身の修習の欠如によるものなのです。」
「されば尊師よ、比丘たちは、かかる禅定（サマーディ）の修習を実証するために、世尊のもとで梵行（ぼんぎょう）を修めているのでありましょうか。」
