“Yes, worthy sir,” replied the butler, and did as he was asked. “I’ve heard that the ascetic Gotama knows how to accomplish the sacrifice with three modes and sixteen accessories. I don’t know about that, but I wish to perform a great sacrifice. 「かしこまりました」と執事は答え、言われた通りにした。「わたしはこのように聞き及んでおります。沙門ゴータマは、三種の祭祀の成就（ヤンニャサンパダ）と十六の資具（パリッカーラ）をご存知であると。わたし自身はそれについて知りませんが、大いなる祭祀（マハーヤンニャ）を執り行いたいと願っております。それならばいっそ、沙門ゴータマのもとへ赴き、三種の祭祀の成就と十六の資具についてお尋ねしてみてはどうであろうか」と。
そこでクータダンタ婆羅門（ブラーフマナ）は執事に語りかけた。「では、婆羅門たちと居士（ガハパティカ）たちのもとへ行き、こう伝えなさい。『皆さま、婆羅門クータダンタがお尋ね申し上げております』と」。
