He was very learned in diverse fields of learning. 彼は様々な学問の分野において博識であった。彼はさまざまな言説の意味を理解し、「この言葉の意味はこれであり、あの言葉の意味はあれである」と言い得るほどであった。彼は聡明（さとり）にして熟達し、智慧（ちえ）深く、過去・未来・現在にわたる事柄を思惟（しゆい）する力を備えていた。
4.3. 四つの付随的条件
さらに、バラモンの祭祀長（プローヒタ）は四つの徳目を具えていた。彼は母方・父方の両系統において生まれが清らかであり、七代の祖先の代にさかのぼるまで、その血統（ガハナ）は純粋にして汚れなく、生まれに関していかなる批難をも受けることなく、いかなる誹りをも免れていた。また彼は学識があり、真言（マンタ）を体得し、三ヴェーダに通暁して、その奥義を究め、語彙集・儀礼書・音韻分析、さらに伝承（イティハーサ）を第五として、これらすべてに精通していた。
