The king agreed with the high priest’s advice and followed his recommendation. Then the king summoned the brahmin high priest and said to him: ‘Sir, the king’s realm is harried and oppressed. Raiding of villages, towns, and cities has been seen, and infesting of highways. ‘I have eradicated the plague of savages. And relying on your plan my revenue is now great. 王はかの司祭バラモンの言葉を承けて、そのごとく取り計らわれた。王の国土において農業・牧畜に励む者たちには、王は種籾と食糧を給付されたのである。
さて、バラモンよ、王マハーヴィジタは司祭バラモンを召し寄せて、このように仰せられた。
「尊者よ、かつて余の国土は荒廃し、民は苦しみに喘いでいた。村々が襲われ、町々が荒らされ、城市（じょうし）が略奪され、道路は賊徒に脅かされていた。しかるに今や、余は盗賊という棘（いばら）を根こそぎ抜き取った。尊者の御計らいによりて、余の国庫はいまや豊かに満ちている。国土は安穏（あんのん）の地として確立し、荒廃も圧迫も消え去った。民は喜びに満ちて、心に歓喜を宿し、踊り歌いながら……」
