「これら剃髪の沙門（しゃもん）どもは、いかなる者か。にせの修行者、卑しき者ども、われらが親族の足より生まれし黒き種族よ。三明（さんみょう）を具えたるバラモンたちとの対話に、かかる者どもを比すべきであろうか」と。しかるに彼自身は、いまだ一つの離欲（りよく）さえも成就していないのである。アンバッタよ、見よ、汝の師なるバラモン、ポッカラサーティが汝にいかなる過ちを犯せるかを。
六 昔の聖仙（せいせん）の境地に倣うこと
アンバッタよ、バラモンのポッカラサーティは、コーサラ国の王パセーナディより下賜された封土（ほうど）の禄を受けて生計を立てておる。しかるに王パセーナディは、彼と直接まみえることすら許さない。たとえ彼に諮問するときも、垂れ幕の向こうより言葉を交わすのみである。
