「ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この似非学者めが。ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この似非博識者めが。ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この三ヴェーダに通じたふりをする者めが。このように振る舞う者は、身（カーヤ）が滅びた後、死後において、悪処（アパーヤ）・悪趣（ドゥッガティ）・堕処（ヴィニパータ）・地獄（ニラヤ）に生まれることになるのだぞ。アンバッタよ、汝が彼の尊き方ゴータマをかくも繰り返し攻撃したればこそ、彼の尊きゴータマも、われわれをかくも繰り返し責めるに至ったのだ。ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この似非学者めが。ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この似非博識者めが。ああ、なんと恥ずべきことか、この三ヴェーダに通じたふりをする者めが」と。
かくて怒りと憤りに燃えて、アンバッタを蹴り倒し、ただちに世尊のもとへ赴かんとした。
