「さて、バラモンたちは彼に聖典（マンタ）を教授するであろうか、それともしないであろうか」と。「教授するでありましょう、ゴータマ尊者よ」と。「しからば彼は女人（いつき）より遠ざけられるであろうか、それとも遠ざけられないであろうか」と。
アンバッタよ、かの梵天（ブラフマン）サナンクマーラは、かつてこの偈（ゲー）を説かれた。
「明知と徳行とを具足せる者（ヴィッジャーチャラナサンパンノ）こそ、
神々と人間とのなかにあって、最上の者である」と。
第一誦分（バーナヴァーラ）、ここに終わる。
「家柄（ゴッタ）を依りどころとする人々のなかにあっては、
刹帝利（クシャトリヤ）こそ最上の者である。
されど明知と徳行とを具足せる者は——」
