「バラモンよ、これら四つの姓（ヴァルナ）のうち、三つの姓——刹帝利（クシャトリヤ）、毘舎（ヴェッサ）、首陀羅（スッダ）——は、ことごとくバラモンに奉仕することによってのみ成就するのであります。されば、ゴータマよ、これは礼にかなわず、ふさわしからぬことであります。かのサキャ族の者どもは、賤しき者（イッバ）でありながら、バラモンを敬わず、バラモンを重んぜず、バラモンを尊ばず、バラモンを供養せず、バラモンに礼拝しないとは」と。かくしてアンバッタ青年は、サキャ族に対して「賤しき者（イッバ）」という言葉をもって、三たび誹謗の言を投げつけたのである。
