三・二 杖行者マッカリ・ゴーサーラの説
尊師よ、あるとき私は、杖行者（アージーヴィカ）マッカリ・ゴーサーラのもとへ赴いた。赴いてのち、マッカリ・ゴーサーラと挨拶を交わした。礼儀にかなった和やかな言葉を交わし終えて、かたわらに座した。かたわらに座してのち、尊師よ、私はマッカリ・ゴーサーラに例の問いを問うた。
かく申し上げたとき、王の臣下の一人がマガダ国の王アジャータサットゥ（阿闍世）・ヴェーデーヒプッタに向かってこう申し上げた。「大王よ、かのプーラナ・カッサパは……」
