比丘たちよ、これが、かの沙門・婆羅門たちが問いを発せられるたびごとに、言葉を翻し、曖昧模糊たる詭弁（アマラーヴィッケーパ）に陥る、四つの根拠（ヴァットゥ）に他ならない。
比丘たちよ、いかなる沙門・婆羅門といえども、問いを発せられるたびごとに言葉を翻し、曖昧なる詭弁に陥る者は、すべてこの四つの根拠のいずれか一つによるものである。これより外に、別の根拠はない。
如来（タターガタ）はこのことをよく了知したもう……そして、如来の徳（ヴァンナ）をありのままに、正しく讃歎しようとする者は……
