「沙門ゴータマは不梵行（あぼんぎょう）を捨て、梵行（ぼんぎょう）を修め、遠離（おんり）して、世俗の淫事を離れておられる」と——比丘たちよ、このように凡夫（ぼんぷ）は如来（にょらい）の徳を讃えるのである。
「沙門ゴータマは妄語（もうご）を捨て、虚言を離れておられる。真実を語り、真実に即し、誠実にして信頼すべく、言葉をもって世を欺くことがない」と——比丘たちよ、このように凡夫は如来の徳を讃えるのである。
「沙門ゴータマは両舌（りょうぜつ）を捨て、離間の言葉を離れておられる。ここで聞いたことをかの人々を分裂させるために彼処（かしこ）で語らず、彼処で聞いたことをこれらの人々を分裂させるためにここで語ることがない」と——比丘たちよ、このように凡夫は如来の徳を讃えるのである。
