When the corresponding condition ceases, the appropriate feeling ceases.” “Good, good, sisters! That’s how it is for a noble disciple who truly sees with right wisdom. 「それぞれの縁（えん）が滅するに従って、それぞれの受（じゅ）もまた滅する。」「善いかな、善いかな、姉妹たちよ。姉妹たちよ、正智（しょうち）をもって如実（にょじつ）に観る聖なる弟子（聖弟子・しょうでし）にとっては、まさにそのようにあるのです。
さて、姉妹たちよ、もしある人がこのように言ったとしましょう。『あの油の灯明（とうみょう）が燃えているとき、油もまた無常（むじょう）にして変易（へんえき）する法（ほう）であり、灯芯（とうしん）もまた無常にして変易する法であり、炎（ほのお）もまた無常にして変易する法である。しかるに、その光（ひかり）は常住（じょうじゅう）にして、堅固にして、永遠にして、変易することなき法である』と。姉妹たちよ、そのように語る者は、正しく語ることになるでしょうか。」
「いいえ、尊者よ、なりません。」
「それはいかなる理由によるのでしょうか。」
「それは、あの灯明の油も、灯芯も、炎も、すべて無常にして変易する法であり……」
