“I’ve made up this simile to make a point. And this is the point. ‘The inner flesh’ is a term for the six interior sense fields. ‘The outer hide’ is a term for the six exterior sense fields. ‘The connecting tendons, sinews, and ligaments’ is a term for greed and relishing. ‘A sharp meat cleaver’ is a term for noble wisdom. 「わたしはこの譬えを、意味を伝えるために説いた。その意味はこうである。
『内なる肉の塊』とは、六つの内なる処（āyatana）、すなわち六内処（ろくないしょ）のことを指す言葉である。『外なる皮』とは、六つの外なる処、すなわち六外処（ろくげしょ）のことを指す言葉である。『内なる軟肉・腱・靭帯』とは、喜貪（nandīrāga）、すなわち喜びと貪りのことを指す言葉である。『鋭利な肉切り包丁』とは、聖なる智慧（ariyā paññā）のことを指す言葉である。
そしてまさにその聖なる智慧こそが、内なる煩悩（kilesa）を、内なる結縛（saṁyojana）を、内なる繋縛（bandhana）を、断ち切り、裁ち分け、截断し、解き放つのである。
姉妹たちよ、これら七つの覚支（bojjhaṅga）を修し、繰り返し修習することによって——」
