“Certainly he is the Buddha, the one who knows and sees. He is vision, he is knowledge, he is the manifestation of principle, he is the manifestation of divinity. He is the teacher, the proclaimer, the elucidator of meaning, the bestower of freedom from death, the lord of truth, the Realized One. That was the time to approach the Buddha and ask about this matter. We should have remembered it in line with the Buddha’s answer. 「カッチャーナ尊者よ、まことに世尊（バガヴァン）は、知るべきことを知り、見るべきことを見たもうお方であります。世尊は眼（チャックhu）そのものであり、智（ニャーナ）そのものであり、法（ダンマ）の体現者であり、梵（ブラフマ）の体現者であります。世尊は教えを説く者、法を宣べ伝える者、意義を明らかにする者、不死（アマタ）を授ける者、真理の主、如来（タターガタ）であります。まさにそのとき、この義（アッタ）について世尊みずからに問い質し奉るべき機会がございました。世尊がお答えくださったとおりに、それを心に保ち奉ったことでありましょう。しかしながら、マハーカッチャーナ尊者は、世尊によって称讃せられ、智慧ある清浄行の同学（サブラフマチャーリン）たちによって敬重せられておられます。マハーカッチャーナ尊者は、世尊が略して示され、詳しくは解き明かされなかったこの概説（ウッデーサ）の義を、広く詳細に説き明かすことがおできになりましょう。」
