The Buddha said this: “Ānanda, these four individuals are found in the world. When their body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell. What four? It’s when an individual here kills living creatures, steals, and commits sexual misconduct. They use speech that’s false, divisive, harsh, or nonsensical. 世尊はこのように仰せられた。「アーナンダよ、この世には四種の人（puggala）が存在する。その者は身体が滅びたのち、死後において、悪趣（apāya）・悪生処（duggati）・堕処（vinipāta）・地獄（niraya）に生まれる。いかなる四種であるか。
アーナンダよ、ここにある人がいて、生きとし生けるものの命を奪い、与えられていないものを取り、諸々の欲望において邪なる行いをなす。また、虚偽の言葉を語り、離間の言葉を語り、粗暴な言葉を語り、無益の言葉を語る。さらに、貪欲（abhijjhā）の心をいだき、瞋恚（byāpāda）の心をいだき、邪見（micchādiṭṭhi）を奉じている。かかる者は、身体が滅びたのち、死後において、悪趣・悪生処・堕処・地獄に生まれるのである。」
