中部経典（MN135 §15.2–17.4）
They don’t bow to those they should bow to. They don’t rise up for them, offer them a seat, make way for them, or honor, respect, esteem, or venerate those who are worthy of such. 礼すべき者に礼をせず、起立すべき者のために起立せず、座を譲るべき者に座を譲らず、道を譲るべき者に道を譲らず、尊重すべき者を尊重せず、敬うべき者を敬わず、崇めるべき者を崇めず、供養すべき者に供養をなさない。
かかる業（カンマ）を積み、かかる行いを重ねた者は、身体の滅びたのち、死後において、苦しみの境涯（アパーヤ）、悪しき趣（ドゥッガティ）、堕落の処（ヴィニパータ）、地獄（ニラヤ）に生まれ出ずることとなる。もし地獄に堕ちることなく人間界に還るとも、その生まれるところ生まれるところにおいて、賤しき家柄（ニーチャクーラ）に生を受けることとなる。
これに対して、かたくなにならず、驕り高ぶることなき女人・男子は……かかる業を積み、かかる行いを重ねた者は、身体の滅びたのち、死後において、天上の世界（サッガ）に生まれ出ずることとなる。もし人間界に還るとも、その生まれるところにおいて、高貴なる家柄に生を受けることとなる。
