There comes a time when, after a very long period has passed, the eastern gate of the Great Hell is opened. So they run there as fast as they can. And as they run, their outer skin, inner skin, flesh, and sinews burn and even their bones smoke. 比丘たちよ、はるかな長い時が経った後、ある時、その大地獄（マハーニラヤ）の東の門が開かれることがある。すると彼らは、そこへ向かって全力で駆け出す。その全力の疾走の中で、皮膚も焼け、真皮も焼け、肉も焼け、筋（ナール）も焼け、骨までもが煙を上げる。それでも脱出は果たされ、彼らはその門をくぐり抜けるのである。
「比丘たちよ、たとえばここに、双方に扉を持つ二つの家があるとしよう。眼ある人（チャックマー・プリサ）がその中間に立てば、家に入る者も出る者も、また行き来して歩き回る者をも見ることができる。それと同じように、清浄なる眼をもって……」
