獄卒たちは彼らを逆さまに吊るし、斧（おの）をもって斫（き）り刻む。……獄卒たちは彼らを車に繋ぎ、燃え盛り、炎上し、赤々と輝く地面の上を、前へ後ろへと駆り立てる。……獄卒たちは彼らを、燃え盛り、炎上し、赤々と輝く巨大な炭火の山（aṅgārapabbata）へと、繰り返し登らせ、また降らせる。……獄卒たちは彼らを逆さまに掴み、燃え盛り、炎上し、赤々と輝く、灼熱した銅の釜（lohakumbhī）の中へと投げ込む。そこにおいて彼らは、煮え立つ泡沫（pheṇa）の中で焼かれながら、上へ下へ、また四方へと翻弄され続ける。かくして彼らは、痛烈にして激しき苦（dukkha）を受けるのである。
