中部経典（MN129 §48.5–5.3）
When their body breaks up, after death, they’re reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm. Suppose a gambler was to win a big pile of money with the first winning hand. Such a winning hand is trivial compared to the winning hand whereby an astute person, when their body breaks up, after death, is reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm. This is the total fulfillment of the astute person’s level.” That is what the Buddha said. Satisfied, the mendicants approved what the Buddha said. Furthermore,
身（かだら）をもって善き行いをなし、口をもって善き行いをなし、心をもって善き行いをなした者は、身の滅するのち、死後に善き境涯（すがた）、天上の世界に生まれる。
比丘たちよ、たとえばある博打打ちが、最初の一手にして大いなる財の山を得たとしよう。しかし比丘たちよ、その博打打ちが最初の一手にして大いなる財の山を得たとしても、それはいかに些細な一手であることか。それよりはるかに勝れた一手とは、賢明なる者（paṇḍita）が身・口・意の三つをもって善き行いをなし、身の滅するのち、死後に善き境涯、天上の世界に生まれることである。これこそ、賢者の境地（かさね）の完全なる成就というべきものである。」
世尊はかくのごとく説かれた。比丘たちは歓喜し、世尊の説かれたことを心から称賛した。
