「在家信者よ、それらの神々（デーヴァター）は、『これはわれらのものであり、常住（nicca）であり、恒久（dhuva）であり、永遠（sassata）である』などとは思わない。ただ、それらの神々がどこかに執着（abhinivisati）するならば、まさにそこにおいてこそ、それらの神々は喜びを見出すのである。
在家信者よ、たとえば蠅どもが、担ぎ棒や籠によって運ばれているとき、『これはわれらのものであり、常住であり、恒久であり、永遠である』などとは思わない。ただ、それらの蠅がどこかに止まるならば、まさにそこにおいてこそ、それらの蠅は喜びを見出すのである。
まさにそのように、在家信者よ、それらの神々もまた、『これはわれらのものであり、常住であり、恒久であり、永遠である』などとは思わない。ただ、それらの神々がどこかに執着するならば、まさにそこにおいてこそ、それらの神々は喜びを見出すのである。」
