you don’t make a wish, you both do and do not make a wish, or you neither do nor don’t make a wish. たとい願いを起こさずして邪正なく梵行（ぼんぎょう）を修むとも、果（か）を得ることあたわず。たとい願いを起こし、かつ起こさずして邪正なく梵行を修むとも、果を得ることあたわず。たとい願いを起こすことも起こさぬこともなくして邪正なく梵行を修むとも、果を得ることあたわず。
しかれども、たとい願いを起こして如理（にょり）に梵行を修めなば、果を得ることよくあたう。たとい願いを起こさずして如理に梵行を修めなば、果を得ることよくあたう。たとい願いを起こし、かつ起こさずして如理に梵行を修めなば、果を得ることよくあたう。
「もし汝の師がかくのごとく説かれるならば、尊者ブーミジャよ、その師はまことにあらゆる沙門・婆羅門（しゃもん・ばらもん）のうちにあって、頭ひとつ抜きん出た方であると、明らかに知られるのであります。」
