沙弥アチラヴァータは、世尊の御言葉を歓喜してお受けした。
「アッギヴェッサナ尊者よ、どうか御身が聴聞し受持（じゅじ）されたままに、法（ダンマ）をお説きください。願わくは、尊者の御言葉の意味を、わたくしが理解できますように。」
「王子よ、わたくしはそなたに、聴聞し受持したままに法を説くであろう。もしそなたがわたくしの言葉の意味を理解するならば、それはよいことである。もし理解できぬならば、各々がおのれの立場にとどまるべきであり、そのことについてわたくしにさらなる問いを向けてはならぬ。」
