いかなる災難（upaddava）も、すべては愚者（bāla）より生じ、賢者（paṇḍita）より生じることはない。いかなる禍（upasagga）も、すべては愚者より生じ、賢者より生じることはない。
比丘たちよ、たとえば葦ぶきの小屋や草ぶきの小屋から燃え移った火が、内外を塗り固め、風の入らぬよう整えられ、かんぬきをしっかりと下ろし、窓をとざした楼閣をも焼き尽くすように、まさにそのごとく、比丘たちよ、いかなる危難（bhaya）も、すべては愚者より生じ、賢者より生じることはない。いかなる災難も、すべては愚者より生じ、賢者より生じることはない。いかなる禍も、すべては愚者より生じ、賢者より生じることはない。
