「比丘たちよ、真人（さつじん）が他の真人を知ることは可能である。『この方は真人である』と。しかしまた、比丘たちよ、真人が非真人を知ることもできようか。『この者は非真人である』と。」「然り、世尊よ。」「善きかな、比丘たちよ。それもまた可能なることである。
比丘たちよ、真人（サップリサ）とは、善なる法（サッダンマ）を具え、真人を敬慕し、真人の思惟をもち、真人の教えを奉じ、真人の語りをなし、真人の行ないをなし、真人の見解をもつものである。
では比丘たちよ、いかにして真人は善なる法（サッダンマ）を具えるのか。それは、真人が信（サッダー）をそなえ、慚（ヒリー）をそなえ、愧（オッタッパ）をそなえ……」
