「さあ、尊者アーナンダよ、おいでください。尊者アーナンダよ、ようこそおいでくださいました。随分と久しぶりに、このようにここへお越しになる機会を設けてくださいましたね。どうぞ、こちらにお座りください。座席が整えてございます。」アーナンダ長老は用意された座席に着かれた。一方、バラモンのゴーパカ・モッガッラーナもまた、低い座を取って傍らに座した。
「尊者アーナンダよ、かの尊師ゴータマ――阿羅漢（アラハン）にして正等覚者（サンマーサンブッダ）――が具えておられたあの諸々の法（ダンマ）を、あらゆる点において、あらゆる意味において、ことごとく具え備えた比丘（ビク）が、一人なりともおられるでしょうか。」
