They say: ‘Reverends, I don’t recall committing a serious offense of that nature. Now at that time the Jain ascetic of the Ñātika clan had recently passed away at Pāvā. 彼はこのように言う。「友よ、私はそのような重大な罪過（āpatti）、すなわち波羅夷（pārājika）あるいは波羅夷に準ずる罪を犯したとは記憶しておりません。
ところで、かの時まさにニガンタ・ナータプッタ（Nigaṇṭha Nāṭaputta）がパーヴァー（Pāvā）において亡くなったところでありました。彼の入滅ののち、ニガンタたちは分裂して二派に分かれ、諍いを生じ、口論を生じ、論争に陥り、互いに口という矛をもって刺し合いながら住しておりました。
『汝はこの法と律（dhamma-vinaya）を知らない。我はこの法と律を知っている。汝なんぞこの法と律を知り得ようか。汝は邪なる行いをしている者である。我は正しき行いをしている者である。我が言は一貫している。汝が言は一貫していない。
