中部経典（MN103 §7.3–8.11）
‘The venerables agree on the meaning but disagree on the phrasing. But the venerables should know that this is how such agreement on the meaning and disagreement on the phrasing comes to be. But the phrasing is a minor matter. Please don’t get into a dispute about something so minor.’ Then they should approach whichever mendicant they think is most amenable among those who side with the other party and say to them: ‘The venerables agree on the meaning but disagree on the phrasing. 「諸々の尊者方は、意味（アッタ）においては一致しながら、文言（ビャンジャナ）においては異なっておられる。このことについて、諸尊者方はよく知られるがよい――いかにして意味においては一致しながら、文言においては異なることが生じるかを。しかるに、文言とはまことに些細なことである。どうか尊者方よ、かくも些細なことについて諍い（ヴィヴァーダ）に陥られることなかれ。」
次いで、他の一方の側に立つ比丘たちのうち、最も言葉を受け入れやすいと思われる比丘のもとに近づいて、このように語りかけるべきである。「諸々の尊者方は、意味においては一致しながら、文言においては異なっておられる。もしそこで汝らに、意味においても一致し、文言においても一致しているのだという思いが起こるならば、どうか尊者方よ、諍いに陥られることなかれ。」
