このように、意味においては相違があり、文言においては一致するということが生じるのである。「尊者たちよ、どうかこのことについて諍い（vivāda）に陥ることなかれ」と。
かくして、誤って受持（duggahita）されたものは誤って受持されたものとして記憶し、正しく受持（suggahita）されたものは正しく受持されたものとして記憶すべきである。そのように記憶したうえで、法（dhamma）と律（vinaya）に則って語るべきである。
「これらの尊者たちは、意味においては相違があり、文言においては一致している」――そのような場合には、最も話しかけやすいと思われる比丘（bhikkhu）のもとに近づき、次のように告げるべきである。「尊者たちは、意味においては相違があり、文言においては一致しております。この点について、尊者たちよ、どうかこのように知られるがよい――すなわち……」と。
