In the same way, those ascetics and brahmins seem to be like traders when they say: “After death we shall be like this! 「死後、我々はかくあるだろう、かくあるだろう」と説く彼ら沙門・婆羅門たちは、まるで商人のようであると如来には知られる。
およそ現に存在する有情（さっとわ）の断滅・消滅・非存在を説く沙門・婆羅門たちは、有身（さっかーや）を畏れ、有身を嫌悪するがゆえに、かえってその有身のまわりを走りめぐり、ぐるぐると旋回し続けているのである。
ちょうど革紐で繋がれた猟犬が、太い柱あるいは杭にしっかりと結びつけられているならば、その柱あるいは杭のまわりをただ走りめぐり、旋回し続けるのと同じように、これら沙門・婆羅門たちもまた、有身を畏れるがゆえに、有身のまわりを走りめぐり続けるのである。
