「このような優れた方々がここにお座りになっているのですから、何も差し支えはございません。」「では、学徒よ、語りなさい。」「ゴータマ尊者よ、バラモンたちは真理（サッチャ）を第一の法（ダンマ）として定め、功徳（プンニャ）を積み、善（クサラ）を成就するための道と説いております。」「それは違います、ゴータマ尊者よ。」「では、学徒よ、バラモンたちの師のうち、あるいは師の師のうち、さらには七代にわたる師の系譜を遡っても、『私はこれら五つの法（ダンマ）を自ら直接知り（アビンニャー）、体証した上でその果報（ヴィパーカ）を説き示す』と言う者が、一人でもいるでしょうか。」「いいえ、ゴータマ尊者よ、おりません。」「では、学徒よ、バラモンたちの古の仙人たち、すなわちアッタカ、ヴァーマカ、ヴァーマデーヴァ、ヴェッサーミ……」
