Pokkharasāti is veiled, shrouded, covered, and engulfed by these five hindrances. ポッカラサーティ（Pokkharasāti）は、これら五つの蓋（nīvaraṇa）によって、覆われ、包まれ、閉ざされ、絡め取られている。かくなる状態にある彼が、人間を超えた境地、すなわち聖者（ariya）にふさわしき勝れた知見（ñāṇadassana）を知り、見、あるいは証することなど、およそあり得ないことである。
また、これら五種の欲楽（kāmaguṇa）がある。〔かかる欲楽に縛られたる者が、〕人間を超えた境地、すなわち聖者にふさわしき勝れた知見を知り、見、あるいは証することなど、およそあり得ないことである。その五つとは何か。眼によって識られる諸々の色（rūpa）であって、好ましく、愛すべく、心に適い、快く、欲情（kāma）を伴い、人の心を染める〔もの〕。耳によって識られる諸々の声（sadda）であって……。
