バラモン（brāhmaṇa）のための奉仕、刹帝利（khattriya）のための奉仕、毘舎（vessa）のための奉仕、首陀羅（sudda）のための奉仕を定めております。ゴータマよ、バラモンたちがバラモンのために定める奉仕とはこのようなものでございます。すなわち、『バラモンはバラモンに仕えてもよく、刹帝利はバラモンに仕えてもよく、毘舎はバラモンに仕えてもよく、首陀羅もまたバラモンに仕えてもよい』と。またゴータマよ、バラモンたちが刹帝利のために定める奉仕とはこのようなものでございます。すなわち、『刹帝利は刹帝利に仕えてもよく、毘舎は刹帝利に仕えてもよく、首陀羅もまた刹帝利に仕えてもよい』と。またゴータマよ、バラモンたちが毘舎のために定める奉仕とは——
