「これのみが真実であり、他はすべて虚妄である」と。」「いいえ、ゴータマ尊者よ、そのようなことはございません。」「バーラドヴァージャよ、してみると、バラモンたちの中には、師から師へと七代にわたる師承（ācariya-paramparā）を遡っても、『われはこれを知る、われはこれを見る。これのみが真実であり、他はすべて虚妄である』と、かく語ったバラモンは、ただの一人も存在しないということになる。また、かつてのバラモンたちの先人の仙人（isi）たち、すなわち呪文（manta）を作り、呪文を説き広めた人々——今日のバラモンたちが、その古い呪句（mantapada）を誦し、唱え、集め、それに和して誦し、それに和して唱え、説かれたるものをまた説き、唱えられたるものをまた唱えるところの、かのアッタカ、ヴァーマカたちでさえも——そのような仙人たちもまた、しかく語ることはなかったのである。たとえば、ここに盲人たちが一列に連なり、それぞれが前の者の肩に手をかけているとしよう。先頭の者も見えず、中ほどの者も見えず、最後の者もまた見えない。
