彼らは現世においてすでに、みずからを苦しめることなく、他を苦しめることなく、渇愛（タンハー）の消え失せたる者として、涅槃（ニッバーナ）に到り、清涼となり、安楽を体感しつつ、梵（ブラフマン）と一となれる自己をもって住するのである」と。
かく説き終わりたるに、婆羅門ゴータムカは、ウデーナ尊者に向かいてこのように言った。
「ウデーナ尊者よ、すばらしい、まことにすばらしい。ウデーナ尊者よ、それはちょうど、倒れたるものを起こし、覆われたるものを開き、迷える者に道を示し、あるいは暗闇の中に油の灯火を掲げて『眼ある者は色（かたち）を見よ』と言うがごとく、ウデーナ尊者は、あまたの方便をもって法（ダンマ）を明らかにしてくださいました。わたくしはここに、ウデーナ尊者に帰依（きえ）し、法（ダンマ）に帰依し、比丘（びく）の僧伽（サンガ）に帰依いたします」と。
