The Buddha used his psychic power to will that Sela would see his private parts covered in a foreskin. And he stuck out his tongue and stroked back and forth on his ear holes and nostrils, and covered his entire forehead with his tongue. そのとき世尊は、セーラ婆羅門が世尊の陰処（いんしょ）の鞘に覆われた相を見ることができるよう、そのような神通力（じんつうりき）を行使された。そして世尊は舌を伸ばして、両耳の穴をなで、また逆になで、両鼻の孔をなで、また逆になで、さらに舌をもって額の全面をことごとく覆われた。
そのときセーラ婆羅門は、こう思った。
「沙門ゴータマは、三十二の大人の相（だいにんのそう）を、欠けるところなく円満に具えておられる。しかるに、かの方が覚れる者（ブッダ）であるかどうか、わたしにはまだ知ることができない。かつて年老い、齢を重ねた婆羅門たちの師の師より伝え聞いたところによれば、『これらの相を具える者は……』」
