But if he goes forth from the lay life to homelessness, he becomes a perfected one, a fully awakened Buddha, who casts off the veil from the world.” “But Keṇiya, where is the Blessed One at present, the perfected one, the fully awakened Buddha?” When he said this, Keṇiya pointed with his right arm and said, “There, worthy Sela, at that line of blue forest.” Then Sela, together with his young students, approached the Buddha. 「しかし、もし彼が在家の生活を捨てて出家するならば、世の覆いを取り除く（vivaṭṭacchada）、完全なる覚者（阿羅漢・正等覚者）となるであろう。」
「では、ケーニヤよ、その尊師ゴータマ——阿羅漢（arahaṁ）にして正等覚者（sammāsambuddha）——は、いま何処においでになるのですか。」
こう問われると、結髪行者（jaṭila）のケーニヤは右腕を差し伸べて、バラモンのセーラに告げた。
「尊者よ、あの青き森の連なりの彼方に。」
そこでバラモンのセーラは、三百人の学生たちを伴い、世尊のもとへと近づいていった。
セーラはその学生たちに向かってこう語りかけた。
「皆の者よ、静かに来なさい。一歩一歩、足音を忍ばせて進むのです。世尊方（bhagavanto）は獅子のごとく、おいそれと近づき難いお方なのですから——
