偉大なる人の相（mahāpurisalakkhaṇā）について。
バラモンのブラーフマーユは、こんな評判を耳にした。「聞くところによれば、あの沙門ゴータマ——釈迦族の子にして、釈迦族の家より出家した方——が、五百人ほどの多くの比丘たちの僧伽（saṅgha）とともに、ヴィデーハの国を遊行されているとのことだ。その尊きゴータマ殿には、かくのごとき麗しい名声が高く広まっている——『かの世尊（bhagavā）は、阿羅漢（arahant）にして、正しく完全な覚りを開かれた方、明知と行（vijjācaraṇa）とを具え備えた方、善く逝かれた方（sugata）、世を知る方（lokavidū）、無上にして人を調御する御者（purisadammasārathi）、神々と人間との師、目覚められた方、世尊である』と。かの方は、天・魔・梵天を含む世界、沙門・バラモン・神々・人間を含む生きとし生けるものを、みずから直かに証知されて……」
